The Academy's courses are designed to not only allow students to meet the requirements and skill level necessary for the relevant pilot licence, but also to meet the requirements of future employers.
The indicated flying hours are a minimum requirement. They are an approximate estimation and are based on competency.
Both the NZ Diploma in Aviation and the CPL/MEIR training scheme will lead you to a career as a commercial pilot. Domestic students usually enrol into the NZ Diploma in Aviation as it allows eligible domestic students to tip into students loans and allowances in oppose to the CPL/MEIR training scheme which is a self-funded programme.

Course Length: 6 months
This NZQA approved course includes six theory papers and 65 hours flight time over 22 weeks. The course is suitable for students interested in flying for recreational use and is available to self-funded domestic students and all International students. International students applying for this course require a Student Visa and suitable insurance.

This NZQA approved qualification covers the syllabus requirements for the CPL MEIR programme along with ATPL (Human Factors, Meteorology), Basic Gas Turbine, Dangerous Goods course and Winter Flying ground course.
Holders of this qualification are able to work as commercial pilots of an aeroplane engaged in general aviation under the relevant Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Rules or in associated support industries such as flight planning and aircraft operations.
On completion of this qualification, graduates may progress to the New Zealand Diploma in Aviation (Level 6) with strands in Aeroplane Flight Instruction or Aeroplane Airline Preparation.
For Domestic Student Loan Supported (SAC Funded) Students, A Private Pilot Licence is a prerequisite, and is self-funded.

This NZQA approved qualification builds on the New Zealand Diploma in Aviation (General Aviation) with a strand in Airline Preparation.
Graduates of the Aeroplane Flight Instruction strand will also be able to:
– Instruct a diverse population of students in ground subjects and the art of flying, from private through commercial pilot and instrument ratings on single or multi-engine aircraft; to meet the requirements of a CAANZ Category C Flight Instructor Aeroplane, as defined and specified in CAA Rule Part 61 and applicable Advisory Circulars.
Graduates of the Aeroplane Airline Preparation strand will also be able to:
– Safely undertake duties as the pilot-in-command or as the co-pilot of a multi-engine multi-crew aircraft by applying knowledge of the CAANZ Airline Transport Pilot Licence rating theory subjects for aeroplanes, in order to ensure effective cockpit and flight crew dynamics, whilst confidently managing automation, complex equipment and technically challenging systems present within airline air transport operations, as defined and specified in CAA Rule Part 61 and applicable Advisory Circulars.
Includes the theory subjects offered in NZ Diploma in General Aviation plus the addition of the following:

The IAANZ MCC course is an 8 day long course which is broken up into three parts ; Self Study, Classroom Learning and Simulator Training which provides students with:
- Realistic Instruction in multi-pilot, multi-engine aircraft operations
- Improve decision making, communication, task diversion and checklist utilisation, collaboration, and support during all stages of flight under normal, abnormal, and emergency situations
- Focuses on the development of non-technical abilities needed to function in a multi-crew setting

Phase 3: Base Training
Base Training / Confidence Flight Training is the final phase for the pilots in the training program which gives real real aircraft experience. The Flight Training will be performed with any of the A320 companies, with which GTA has agreements.
They will perform 3 Take off and Landing in Airbus A320 Aircraft.
