The Aviation Industry in India

Currently, India enjoys the status of being the third-largest domestic aviation market in the world. Experts suggest that India will surpass the United Kingdom to become the largest aviation market in domestic and international routes. Today the country has 123 airports catering to domestic and army flights and more than 20 airports that handle international flights.

With renewed government policies, a movement towards digitization, and a growing demand for domestic flights, the aviation industry in India is set to boom. To meet the ever-increasing demands for air travel, there has been a push for better infrastructure and to create a robust ecosystem around commercial flying.

Why is Aviation booming in India?

  • Growing demand. The demand for air travel has increased in the last few years, with more and more middle-class households preferring shorter and affordable flights. Experts project that about 520 million people will travel from/within/to India by 2037.
  • Growth of the MRO market. MRO stands for maintenance, repair, and overhaul of aircraft to ensure a safe flight. It is the most significant expenditure for the aviation industry after fuel.
  • Government incentives. To meet the growing demand for the aviation industry, the government of India has introduced several new policies and invested heavily in incentives. The government has actively promoted the aviation sector from digital modernization and upgrading airports to a more extensive MRO sector to incentives for aerospace manufacturers and flight schools.

Careers in Aviation

When people think about the aviation industry, they think about pilots or cabin crew. But in reality, there are many job opportunities in the aviation industry. With an increasing demand for the MRO sector, aerospace engineers, maintenance engineers, and ground staff have more demand.

eLearning opportunities in India

The International Aviation Academy of New Zealand has curated six private pilot theory courses for students stuck at home because of COVID19 restrictions. The aviation industry in India will see a booming growth once things become normal. Demand for 7000 pilots and 1500 cabin crew members is predicted. The eLearning model from IAANZ will help students get a taste of the aviation industry.
